In Zambia we are working with a local church and community school to help transform the lives of the lost and broken, in particular the orphans, widows and vulnerable children.
The need in the Copperbelt is vast but we have begun by partnering with our Zambian friends, to build the Janna community school in Ndeke, Ndola. To this end, Stephen James BMW sent 16 of their staff in 2008, (volunteers from various departments) to start the building work. This school provides for over 250 children who cannot afford the government provided education programmes. The teams from Stephen James helped build four classrooms, a head teacher’s office & a store to help house the growing need in the Ndeke Township. They came back exhausted but thrilled to have seen the look on the children’s’ faces when they saw their new classrooms.
Beyond Ourselves are now working towards launching a child sponsorship and feeding programme in January 2010.
We currently have 3 fundraising aims:

We currently have 3 fundraising aims:
- The building of a community school in Chimwemwe which will accommodate more than 300 children drawn mainly from female headed homes. This is Zambia’s second largest township numbering 120,000 people with over 90% unemployment & an average life expectancy of 34.
- The land will also house a home based care centre with the aim of reaching over 1500 orphans. The site will be outward looking into the community with a children’s playground & basic internet café, predominantly for teaching computer skills, open to all within the township. We will be funding the home based care programme meant to give support and care to those living with Aids.
- Funding of a sawmill project—as Zambia is 60% forestry, this business will bring about productivity, will provide jobs for 20 people and will indirectly affect approx 200 individuals as beneficiaries.
